Over the past couple weeks I’ve had a revelation about my clothing and makeup possessions. I want to have a clothing and beauty collection that I love and that I use. Similar to how I went through my wardrobe (check out my Fall Capsule Wardrobe blog post if you haven’t already) I also went through my lipsticks. I want to use up my makeup instead of hoarding it. I figured an easy way to go through it is to stick to a couple shades for as long as I can, or until they’re gone. Once one is done I’ll add a new shade into rotation. I have also ended my Ipsy bag subscription. I love receiving all the makeup every month and the idea is genius but half of the stuff I never use and it ends up sitting at the bottom of my makeup drawer with the lip chap I’ve had for three years. I could save that money for makeup I actually really NEED. And I don’t mean spend my money on another mauve-pink-nude color. You know the color I’m talking about? When going through my lipsticks I noticed I have six of the same shade, SIX. And when I put it on the other day I noticed that it didn’t even suit me AT ALL. Maybe it did at one point during the summer when I had a tan. But for now it washes me out. Tip of the day: just because a lipstick color is IN doesn’t mean you can wear it.
In the fall who doesn’t like to run errands in a red lipstick? I thought I would share with you today the three lipsticks I’ll be sticking to for the next little while. When I think of red lipsticks I think of three different shades; a burgundy//berry toned, a bright and a nude//orangey one. There’s a shade for every occasion. I still remember lipstick shopping with my mom when I was younger (I think I mentioned this story in another lipstick post?) she said, you need a day and a night lipstick. This advice has always stuck with me. I also remember her convincing me to buy a lipstick with a slight brown//orange undertone. I refused, wasn’t at all interested in that color until now….
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Creme No.325 Toast of New York.
I bought this last week and I’ve been wearing this color all day every day. It’s one of those lipsticks that you love so much you just want to wear it around your house. It has undertones of orange, brown and terracotta. On Sunday when I arrived at my parents for thanksgiving dinner my mom made a comment that she LOVED this lipstick on me. She was right all along I should explore lipsticks with an orange undertone (especially instead of that mauve-pink-nude color). This lipstick is creamy long lasting and easy to layer. It’s my go to daytime lipstick because it’s not blindingly bright and it pairs well with most fall colors like burgundy and khaki green.
Trestique Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Chili Red
This was my Christmas lipstick last year so obviously it brings back the best memories. Every time I put it on the smell of christmas tree and gingerbread haunt me (74 days people). It has a bright orange undertone that will spice up any dull outfit. This is matte but not drying at all. It’s not a wet consistency like most matte lip colors but is easy to apply. I’d say it’s definitely a standout lipstick, great if you’re a waitress.
‘Tiny Beauty in the shade Starlet Martini
This is a vegan lipstick which is always a bonus. What I like about this lipstick is that it’s quite buildable. It’s a very dark slightly berry shade if you layer it up. If you want something softer, one swipe will be enough. It’s very creamy and not at all drying. I consider this to be my night lipstick. I personally love sporting it on a night out wearing all black.
What’s your favorite red lipstick? Not that I need anymore, just…curious 😛
